Strawberry Season is here! Time to celebrate with a cocktail. Nothing beats fresh juicy strawberries flavoring a craft cocktail on a warm summer day.
Our liquor of choice today is tequila. Strawberry, tequila and lime. Sounds like a mini-vacation in a glass! Garnish it with a strawberry and a lime to impress your partner or your guests.
The cocktail consists of simple ingredients:
Strawberries – Fresh strawberries a definitely best. They will need to be pureed. You can use a blender, but an immersion blender works great too! I added a teaspoon of sugar and an ounce of tequila before I pureed the berries. It infused the alcohol and made for a lovely consistency to add to the cocktail.
An added perk to these delicious strawberries are the health benefits. According to WebMD, about 8 strawberries deliver more vitamin C than an orange! They also have high levels of antioxidants, may fight cancer and could boost your memory.
Lime Juice – You need an ounce of lime juice per cocktail, that equates to approximately one lime per cocktail. You can also purchase bottled lime juice; high quality organic is recommended.
Tequila – Any tequila will be fine here. I suggest a cheaper tequila versus a sipping one, as many flavors are highlighted in the cocktail.
Strawberry Simple Syrup – Simple Syrup is made with equal parts water and sugar, boiled until dissolved. For added flavor, strawberries are added. See my easy 3-ingredient recipe for Strawberry Simple Syrup.
Soda water – plain soda water. We did not have any, so I used a lime Bubly (flavored soda water). Plain soda water is great.
Garnish with a round of fresh lime, a fresh strawberry. Serve on ice in a pretty glass with a cute straw. Enjoy!
How to Make a Strawberry Lime Fizz
Ingredients
Directions
Wash and hull the strawberries and then slice. Place the strawberries in a four cup measuring cup or bowl and add 1 teaspoon of sugar and one ounce of tequila. Puree with an immersion blender.
This step can be done ahead and then refrigerated.
Mix the cocktails:
Add ice to four 8 - 10 ounce glasses. Divide the strawberry puree between the glasses. There will be about 1/3 of a cup of strawberry puree in each glass.
Add 1 to 1 1/2 ounces of tequila to each glass
Add the juice of one lime to each glass (or one ounce)
Add 1 ounce of strawberry simple syrup to each glass (or more if you like it a bit sweeter)
Fill the remainder of the glass with soda water (about an ounce or two). This gives the fizz!
Stir and garnish the glass. I used a lime wheel. Cut a full circle of a lime and then slice from the edge to the center. I added a full strawberry. It works best if you cut out a small wedge. Add a fun straw and enjoy!
